All major leagues in Europe from the Premier League, Ligue 1, La Liga, Bundesliga, to Serie A have announced their winners and are finishing their remaining fixtures.

Now the focus shifts to signing new players and selling others this summer before the next deadline.

Prior to the 2024 summer transfer window, the Premier League has clearly outlined their summer transfer window dates for the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Premier League Summer Transfer Window Opening and Closing Dates

The Premier League outlined that the summer transfer window for the 2024/25 season opens officially on June 14, 2024, which will be on a Friday.

Premier League Clubs are required to sign players during this period and sell or release the outgoing players before the window closes on August 30, 2024, which will also be on a Friday at 23:00 BST.

There are no Premier League teams in the UEFA Champions League final which is set to be played on the same day the transfer window opens.

When does the 2024/25 Premier League Season Begin?

As outlined in the Premier League 2024/25 calendar the new season is set to begin on August 17, 2024, which will be on a Saturday.

The new season kicks off when the summer transfer window is still open. The Premier League says this is to ensure harmonization with other major leagues in Europe.

Players will be exhausted from national duty and summer training and traditionally, this date allows for players to rest for a 3-week period before the new season commences.

Winter Transfer Window

After the summer transfer window, the winter transfer window opens mid-season to allow teams to address their specific needs and strengthen their teams for the second-leg fixtures.

The winter transfer window will run from January 1, 2025, which will be on a Wednesday to February 3, 2025, which will be on a Monday at 23:00 BST.

Penalties for not Meeting the Transfer Window Deadline

Premier League clubs must stick to the set transfer window deadlines failure to which they cannot register the player for upcoming matches.

However, Premier League clubs are allowed for 2 more hours after the window closes officially to finalize their deals if they submit a deal sheet. In international transfers, the deadline stretches to midnight under the FIFA Transfer Matching System (TMS).

Squad List Submission

After the transfer window closes, Premier League clubs must submit an updated squad list to the Premier League and each squad can not contain more than 17 players who do not fulfill the HGP criteria (Home Grown Player).

The Home Grown players under the HGP criteria must account for 8 players totaling 25 players.

Conclusion

The summer 2024 window opens on 14th June and will allow clubs to sign and sell players until August 30 of the same year. The new season begins on August 17th and the mid-season transfer window opens on January 1 until February 3.

Clubs must stick to the deadlines to avoid penalties and also ensure squad compliance under the HGP criteria. Watch out for last-minute transfers and clubs battle for players.
