Former World Cup winner Olivier Giroud announced on Monday, May 13, 2024, that he will leave AC Milan at the end of the season when his contract expires this summer.

The French striker joined the club from Chelsea in 2021 and won the Serie A in his debut season for AC Milan.

In a heartfelt video posted on AC Milan’s official social media channels, French striker Olivier Giroud confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the current season. The 37-year-old expressed gratitude to the fans, teammates, and staff for their support during his time in Milan.

Giroud joined AC Milan in July 2021 from Chelsea. Despite his age, he made an immediate impact, contributing significantly to the team’s success.  

In his debut season, Giroud played a crucial role in helping AC Milan secure the Serie A championship. His experience and clinical finishing were essential in key matches.

Over the past three years, Giroud scored an impressive 48 goals across all competitions. His poacher’s instinct and ability to find the back of the net made him a fan favorite.

When Giroud Played as a Goal Keeper for AC Milan

In a Serie A match against Genoa, AC Milan found themselves in a tight spot. Regular goalkeeper Mike Maignan received a red card, leaving the team with no substitutions remaining. Olivier Giroud, the seasoned striker came in as an emergency goalkeeper.

What’s Next for Giroud?

During the announcement, Giroud said,” I will play my last two games with Milan and then am going to the MLS…” While Giroud didn’t reveal what club in the MLS, he hinted he will be with his friend from his national team Hugo Lloris who plays for Los Angeles FC.

He also said, “I’m also happy because I will be with my friend from the national team Lloris, incredible to find ourselves there” When his contract ends, Giroud will continue his football journey in the United States, leaving behind a memorable chapter in Milan’s history.
