Liverpool Football Club coaches are set to arrive in Kenya for a three-day training camp, aimed at equipping local coaches with the necessary skills to nurture Kenyan talent.

Aimed at training 35 coaches in Nairobi, Kenya, the program called 'Play On: Train the Trainer', was delivered by coaches from Liverpool’s International Academy and LFC Foundation. It combined classroom-based and on-pitch learning and covered various aspects. This initiative is in partnership with the Standard Chartered Bank, Liverpool's headline sponsor, and will be conducted alongside some coaches from a Nairobi-based girls' football team.

The primary objective of the training session is to impart skills that will empower girls within their communities, enabling them to succeed through sport. The training program will include a holistic Play On curriculum, with workshops covering a person-centered approach, barriers to participation, mental health and well-being, balancing life, and empowering women in leadership.

Joyce Kibe, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand and Marketing, Standard Chartered Kenya, noted in a press statement announcing the camp, “We aspire to identify ways to impact our communities in meaningful and tangible ways. This partnership allows us to meet our objectives to support sustainable economic and social development while inspiring more girls to thrive in the long term."

The Liverpool FC coaches will teach the Play On curriculum, and after a series of daily tasks, the local coaches will be asked to create their session plans incorporating the curriculum, which they will then take back and deliver to girls in their local communities.

The initiative has been welcomed by Enouce Ndeche, the Chief Executive Officer of a local nongovernmental organization, who lauded the move and termed it an opportunity for social and economic change. Steven Gillespie, Senior Programme Manager of International Academies at Liverpool FC, stated that the program aims to provide practical coaching guidance and give a unique insight to the participants.

This partnership between Standard Chartered Bank and Liverpool Football Club is a testament to the power of sports in empowering communities and driving social and economic growth.
