Kylian Mbappe's Fitness Concerns for Euro 2024 Following Injury
In a recent Euro 2024 match that saw France clinch a 1-0 win against Austria, Kylian Mbappé sustained a nose injury that has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming game against the Netherlands on June 21, 2024.
The injury occurred during an aerial challenge with Austria's Kevin Danso where the France captain hit the defender's shoulder with his nose, leading to a nose fracture for the French forward.
The FFF (French Football Federation) made a statement saying, “Kylian Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second half of the Austria vs France match this Monday in Dusseldorf.”
Further, the FFF stated, “Kylian Mbappe has returned to the base camp of the French team. He will undergo treatment in the coming days without undergoing surgery immediately”
From the statement, FFF indicated that immediate surgery is not necessary for Mbappe, who will be treated in the subsequent days.
Didier Deschamps, the French team's manager, after acknowledging Ngolo Kante's contribution to the game after he was named man of the match confirmed the broken nose and mentioned that the impact on Mbappe's playtime is yet to be determined.
However, Kylian Mbappe took to X and humorously posted, “any ideas for masks”
The FFF subsequently stated, “A mask will be made So as to allow the number 10 of the French team to consider resuming competition after a period devoted to treatment”
Kevin Danso the Austrian defender took to the same platform X sending a sympathizing message to the French captain stating, “I wish him a good recovery and I hope he can quickly get back on the pitch”.
“To French supporters: I am sorry that Kylian Mbappe was injured from our duel,”
Mbappe's pivotal role was underscored when his cross inadvertently resulted in an own goal by Austria's Max Wober, demonstrating his vital importance to France's offensive strategy.
There is evident concern over the star player's health and his key position in the squad.
