French striker and current Al Ittihad forward Karim Benzema has returned to his former club, Real Madrid not permanently as a player but temporarily to seek treatment.

Benzema played for Real Madrid for 14 years where he achieved:648 appearances, 354 goals, and 165 assists. He partnered with Cristiano Ronaldo and other Galácticos to conquer domestic and European competitions.

In 2022, he won the Ballon d’Or, taking his place amongst the best strikers in the world. However, fate had other plans.

In 2023, Karim Benzema decided to start a new chapter in his football career by signing with Al Ittihad and moving to Saudi Arabia. Benzema was excited about new challenges and opportunities, but his journey was not as smooth as he and everyone else had hoped and expected.

Benzema's performances at Al-Ittihad have not been impressive and he has received criticism for it. He has been struggling to establish himself at the club and cannot live up to his Real Madrid days. Scoring only 13 goals in 29 matches, reports suggested that he had a falling out with the Al Ittihad management, which led to whispers of discontent

Benzema also faced muscular problems throughout his first season with the club, preventing him from consistently contributing to their attack and leaving his club to feel the impact of these physical setbacks.

In 2024, the football world was surprised by the news that Benzema was returning to Real Madrid. However, he was not returning permanently but temporarily seeking treatment for a muscular injury he suffered leaving him sidelined during crucial moments

Real Madrid's medical team collaborated with their counterparts in Saudi Arabia to determine the best course of action for Benzema's recovery. After consultations and X-rays, they decided that the best thing for him was to return to Madrid. His former doctor, who had tended to him during his glory days, was waiting for him upon his arrival.

His contract extends until 2026, and his weekly wages remain an eye-watering £500,000. He has returned to mend old bonds and heal his body.

After his treatment at Real Madrid and rehabilitation back to the pitch in the Saudi Pro League, we can only hope that the Ballon d’Or holder can take back his place and go back to his glory days.
