Gareth Southgate has named his provisional 33-man Euro 2024 squad ahead of the June 7, 2024 deadline which requires each nation to submit 26 names per squad.

His squad selection was sophisticated and people were quick to notice he left out top names like Marcus Rashford, ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson, Reece James, and Raheem Sterling and opted for players who had a good season and young players instead.

The three Lions will seek to end their trophy drought spanning 58 years as they travel to Germany for the Euro 2024 this summer. England has had a trend of losing at the last stages of major competitions the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and even finals

England is in Group C of the Euro 2024 group stage and is facing Serbia, Denmark, and Slovenia from June 16, 2024, hoping to reach the knockout stages.

Gareth Southgate’s selection narrowed down to a 33-man squad but the UEFA announced that every nation will have a 26-man squad in the competition. He will have to narrow it down further and cut off 7 players from the squad.

England’s Euro 2024 Provisional Squad

These are the 33 men Gareth Southgate shortlisted out of the required 26 to cut off the 7 after he sees their performances in the national friendlies:

England’s Euro 2024 Goalkeepers

Jordan Pickford (Everton), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), and James Trafford (Burnley)

England’s Euro 2024 Defenders

Harry Maguire (Man Utd), Luke Shaw (Man Utd), Kyle Walker (Man City), John Stones (Man City), Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Kieran Trippier (Newcastle), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Lewis Dunk (Brighton), and Jarrad Branthwaite (Everton).

England’s Euro 2024 Midfielders

Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), Cole Palmer (Chelsea), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Curtis Jones (Liverpool), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Kobbie Mainoo (Man Utd), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), and Antony Gordon (Newcastle).

England’s Euro 2024 Forwards

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Phil Foden (Man City), Jack Grealish (Man City), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Brentford), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), James Maddison (Spurs), and Jarod Bowen (West Ham).

Players that are not in England’s Euro 2024 Squad

Marcus Rashford (Man Utd), Raheem Sterling (Chelsea), Reece James (Chelsea), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Jordan Henderson (Ajax), Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth), Jadon Sancho (BVB), and Ben White (Arsenal).

England’s first-choice goalkeeper will be Jordan Pickford joined by two others. Their defense is injury-laden and Southgate admitting players like Luke Shaw may not play in the tournament. However, Gareth Southgate’s dilemma is choosing three midfielders and three forwards from the vast good options.

England is already a fan favorites and whatever Squad Gareth Southgate ends up with after cutting off the 7 from the 33-man squad we can only hope they will end England’s trophy drought.
