Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Preview and Prediction
•Chelsea and Tottenham are third and fourth respectively in goals per game this season.
•Chelsea have seen over 3.5 goals land in each of their last eight league matches.
•Four of Chelsea’s last eight Premier League games have ended 2-2.
RACE FOR PREMIER LEAGUE POSITION HEATS UP
Tottenham will be hoping to get their top-four battle back on track after their North London Derby defeat but they may find themselves dropping more points in a potentially high-scoring affair at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea played their part in the race for a Champions League spot when they drew with fourth-place Aston Villa at the weekend, coming back from 2-0 down thanks to goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher.
GOALS GALORE IN THE CAPITAL
This continued a run of goal fests for the Blues, with each of their last eight top-flight outings featuring at least four goals and only two teams, Newcastle and Sheffield United, averaging more goals-per-game than Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Fourth on that particular list is Pochettino’s old charges, Spurs, who have seen 3.61 goals-per-game on average, a figure bolstered by their five-goal thriller at home to Arsenal on Sunday.
PALMER TO MAKE AN IMPACT
Ange Postecoglou’s side lost that crucial tie after going 3-0 down in the first half, but they made a good go of things after the break and each of their last three outings have featured four or more goals.
This makes backing over 3.5 goals an appealing option, and I expect the spoils to be shared at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have drawn five of their last nine league assignments, and four of those have ended 2-2, while Spurs’ last trip to Stamford Bridge in August 2022 also ended 2-2.
Goalscorer punters should consider Golden Boot-chasing Cole Palmer, who is second in the rankings behind Erling Haaland. The 21-year-old has 20 top-flight goals for Chelsea and has 11 in his last eight in all competitions.
